Multi-photon Fluorescence Photomicrograph

Tom Deerinck, of the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research (NCMIR) at UCSD, contributed this image for the cover of a new laboratory manual targeting students of microbiology and microscopy.

The photomicrograph depicts cultured cancer cells (HeLa) carefully stained to reveal the distribution of actin (red), microtubules (green) and DNA (blue). The micrograph was obtained using multi-photon fluorescence microscopy.
